OpenLab

If you are thinking about making a Tabletop game (or maybe want physical elements of a digital game, like custom AR targets…) this update is for you: New in 2022, we are partnering with the Open Lab. Their Alumni Hall makerspace (close to the IS building) will be open for use by jammers during the weekend (stay tuned for maker hours). You will be able to fabricate game materials using any of the Open Lab equipment! Caveats: (1) As per any Open Lab use, you need to train on the equipment in advance. To do this join their Canvas page (https://canvas.pitt.edu/enroll/NBDLRT) and work through the relevant training module. We strongly suggest you do this for tools you’re like to use before jam weekend! Lab assistants will be available to help you, but you must complete training before using their equipment–lab rules! (2) Lab tools are first come, first serve. So if you’ve got an amazing 3D printed game piece(s) designed, you need to plan on getting it situated on lab printers as soon as possible on Saturday. (3) Jammers know: making takes time and, often, iteration. You may want to factor in more than one ‘build’ of your Open Lab-produced game element(s) into your timeline/team job divisions.
